Electrically controlled modulation in a photonic crystal nanocavity.
We describe a compact modulator based on a photonic crystal nanocavity whose resonance is electrically controlled through an integrated p-i-n junction. The sub-micron size of the nanocavity promises very low capacitance, high bandwidth, and efficient on-chip integration in optical interconnects.

We demonstrate a new type of laser composed of an array of coupled photonic crystal nanocavities that enables high differential quantum efficiency and output power, together with a low threshold power comparable to those of single photonic crystal cavity lasers. In our experiment, the laser efficiency increases faster than the lasing threshold with an increase in the number of coupled cavities....

متن کاملDesign and Fabrication of an Electrically- Activated Photonic Crystal Nanocavity Laser
In the future, optical networks may see an expanded role not only in telecommunications, but also in computers and other common electronic devices. These optical networks will require small, on-chip light sources. By using the photonic crystal's ability to strongly confine light, photonic crystal lasers can be built very small and very efficient, making them ideal for photonic integrated circui...
متن کاملMagnetic light-matter interactions in a photonic crystal nanocavity.
We study the magnetic coupling between a metal-coated near-field probe and a photonic crystal nanocavity. The resonance of the nanocavity shifts to shorter wavelengths when the ringlike apex of the probe is above an antinode of the magnetic field of the cavity. We show that this can be attributed to a magnetic light-matter interaction and is in fact a manifestation of Lenz's law at optical freq...
